Whenever you come to visit the beautiful island Texel, there must be an opportunity to visit our characteristic bar in the centre of Den Burg. It opened in 1975 as a bar/bistro but over the year it developed into a decent gastro pub. Nowadays we call ourselves “eetcafé” Some of our guests say about us: “You don’t know Texel if you haven’t been in this bar”.

The Balcken, as locals call it, opens in the morning for real Segafreddo coffee, a fresh lunch break, and in the evening there is a dining menu available. We are well known for our pork ribs, satébrochets and the local Texel lamb, but we serve also fish dishes too.

To accompany al this good food we have an excellent beer list, and always 6 rare Dutch and Belgian beers from draught. Of course we have a decent wine list as well. Every now and then we organize special events around beer, food or a combination.

We are recommended in the Lonely Planet guide and the Dutch motorists association ANWB. Our guest are a mixture of the society, all groups will find some in our pleasant atmosphere.
